OWNER, MASTER STYLIST
Sydney started her career in the beauty industry with one thing in mind - customer service - it’s where she shines and remains her top priority!
Sydney started as an apprentice at age 21, after realizing all the opportunities that were in the field, under David Dior of D’ Allens Salon. She credits him for teaching her a lot about the business side of the salon world. It wasn’t long before she took a leap of faith and opened her first small space in Phenix City, after seeing a need for this type of business in her hometown. A year after that opening, she purchased the spot that is now SSOB’s forever home located on Opelika Road.
Sydney has two lively little girls, Jules and Jennings, that keep her busy, and a husband, Christopher, that proudly serves in the US Airforce Band of the West. When she is not working, you can find her spending time with her family, doing all the outdoor things, eating and shopping locally, and listening to good music!
“The old saying goes “do what you love, and you will never work a day in your life”, and I couldn’t agree more. Being a stylist/owner has brought all my passions to life. I can serve customers whom I love dearly in a space that I decorated and designed piece by piece from anywhere you can think of, ranging from secondhand stores - to Anthropologie - to Target. I get to create beautiful hair and help customers feel as pretty on the outside as they are on the inside; but also I get to develop close bonds, from doing first haircuts to styling hair for senior prom (those are the happy moments) - to shaving ahead before the chemo takes all of her hair. I build strong relationships with some amazing women and families. Isn’t that what life is all about?! I am strong in my faith. God made me a “people person” and this job gives me the opportunity to exercise my gift daily. How awesome is that ?!”
Carlla started working at Sydney’s when she was only 19 years old where she began in the boutique as the manager and receptionist for the salon. Sydney encouraged her to apprentice and become a stylist, and now Carlla is happy to be a part of a team and to be surrounded by knowledge. Sydney’s is her second home and she strives to make sure her clients feel the same way.
Forever explaining the extra “L” in her first name (psst... she’s named after her dad), Carlla is married to the love of her life with a one-year-old son and a German short-haired pointer named Duke. She loves cleaning, redecorating her home, and spending time with family and friends. She lives by the motto: “In a world where you can be anything, be kind.” We agree.
Sydney says, “Carlla is loyal like your favorite dog. You can always count on her!”
Jenn started off going to school to learn hair but preferred to work directly in the salon atmosphere for a more hands-on experience, literally. She joined Sydney as her apprentice in 2019 and is so happy to now be on the floor as a stylist.
In her personal and professional life, she is practicing and learning how to be still and listen to the Lord and trust His plan.
Psalm 37:7 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!
Jenn is married to her high school sweetheart with one daughter and a chocolate lab. She loves refurbishing furniture as her meditation and claims to be able to recreate anything on Pinterest. But we’ve all seen Nailed It on Netflix.
Sydney says, “Everyone needs a Jennifer in their life.”
Katie grew up in Maine, yes Maine!!! After attending college in Maine for business, she worked in a salon as a receptionist/assistant before deciding to attend cosmetology school. Katie has been in the hair profession for 22 years and stays up to date with the latest color trends and haircuts for women, men, and children.
Katie and her family relocated to Phenix City for her husband’s job. Katie has been married for 18 years and has 2 boys. She lives for her family and loves to travel around watching her boys play travel sports!
Meg graduated cosmetology school from Central Alabama Community College in 2015, where she also worked at Sally Beauty Supply through 2016. In 2017, she worked full time at East Alabama Medical Center while, lucky for us, she kept doing hair on the side. She joined Sydney’s in July 2019 after taking a leap of faith and moving to Phenix City to start her full-time career in cosmetology.
This thrifty mom of one loves to shop for old furniture, décor, clothes, and using her creative nature to turn it into something new and trendy. Maybe that’s where she developed her love for hair transformations.
Life Motto: Be the energy you want to attract.
Sydney says, “Megan is a force to be reckoned with in our industry.”
Valline Marie Maddox started in the hair industry right out of high school in 2002, assisting many different stylists in the area. She attended Rivertown School of Beauty and finished her license with an apprenticeship. She is in love with doing hair and has been at Sydney’s for just over a year.
Originally from Maryland, this proud wife is not short of dependents with two daughters of her own and three stepchildren. She also has a dog and two cats. With her beautiful busy life, it’s probably good that her life motto is “Life is too short to be so serious”.
But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
Sydney says, “Honestly, Valline is one of the best humans alive, she'll make you laugh 24-7, but is as genuine as they come.”
Catherine grew up in Columbus, GA and has always had a passion for hair and makeup. After attending College of Charleston in Charleston, SC for a year, she moved home and began pursuing her career in cosmetology. She worked as an assistant in a salon while going through school and she graduated from Columbus Technical College in 2021 as a Master Cosmetologist. She loves all things color, and her favorite part of being a stylist is meeting new people and forming relationships with them. She is beyond excited to be part of the Sydney Brand team!
She enjoys listening to music, traveling, working, and hanging out with friends and family. She has a three-legged pup named Jethro. Her life motto is "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go with others."
Lexi is originally from Louisiana (Geaux Tigers) but has been a Georgia peach for the last 7 years. Her husband’s army career brought her family here in 2014 and it quickly became a place they love and call home. John and Lexi have been married for 8 years and have three beautiful children: John Wes, Evelynn, and Lawson. When she’s not behind the chair, she is usually camping with family, cooking Cajun food for a crowd, or hanging out with friends. She loves to travel with her husband & see new places so they are always on the go!
“I’ve been in the hair industry for the last 8 years in between having my babies and I’m so excited to be back! I can’t wait to meet y’all!" -xoxo, Lexi
Shy has lived in several countries around the world. She was always amazed at the differences in architecture, fashion, cultures, and hair trends. These differences tapped in on her natural talent for creativity. This, coupled with her love of people, made going into cosmetology the best career choice for her.
Shy absolutely LOVES hair but she also loves to spend time with her friends and two dogs.
Madi grew up with the love of doing hair and makeup by practicing her talent on her friends. She started working at Sydney’s in May of 2020 and couldn’t be happier with the decision as she says everything feels right.
Madi is married with a daughter and instills the quote “a beautiful day begins with a beautiful mindset” to her family. She hopes to see you in her chair one day.

Nicole worked at D’Allens with Sydney and became her first employee when Sydney started her business in Phenix City. While it was just the two of them for a while, Nicole left to be a stay-at-home mom after having twin boys. A few years later, Nicole got back into the work force by joining a doctor’s office. Missing the creativity and clients the hair industry provided, Nicole made her way back to Sydney’s.
Nicole has been married ten years, has twin boys, age 4, and two dogs. She enjoys spending time with her family in the outdoors.
Laura was born, raised, and proud to say right here in Columbus, GA. She first started her journey as a stylist nearly 18 years ago. Her first salon title was “Assistant” where she loved the opportunity to meet so many amazing people. While fortunate enough to assist many great Stylists, she decided to become an apprentice and eventually graduated as a Master Stylist from West Georgia Technical College.
“Admittedly, there may be a few gaps in my career, but it’s not without good reason. I am also a busy wife to an amazing guy and mom to 4 small kiddos. Those 5 people are my whole world, but I’m more than ready to get back to my roots! As a new member of The Sydney Brand, I cannot be more excited to be at the Blowout Bar with so many amazing new people, clients, and friends to wine a little, but laugh A LOT!" –Laura
